DERRIDA: I realise, given my penchant for noting the passing of intellectuals, that my silence on the death of Jacques Derrida is a notable absence. But I really don't know Derrida's work well enough to comment, and it's seemed to me that most of the commentary on his passing has been marked by immoderation on one side or other. So I haven't particularly wanted to endorse it, but I haven't felt qualified to take issue with it.
But now I've come across a post by Tim Burke from a while back which seems to me to be wholly sensible, measured, and incisive. There are no doubt other good posts on Derrida out there that I could find if I looked; but work calls. So my only substantive comment on Derrida's passing is: what Tim Burke said.
